Here are some pics of the pile of wood I posted earlier. It is a Brazilian Rosewood OM with an european spruce top. The bindings and butt wedge are figured maple with a bwb. I did not mitre my purflings, I tired at first but then I screwed up when I was chiseling the mitres so I just butt jointed the whole thing. I could use everyones advice on that operation. Anyway thanks for looking.

Now to scrape, scrape, scrape. Probably one of my favorite operations. Then sand, sand, sand. One of my least favorite operations. Unfortunately wood working is about 50% sanding.

Thanks again guys and gals,

Homeboy

Homeboy,

Nice shape and great wood combinations - it will sound great I'm sure. The purfling at the butt-wedge looks neat enough to me.

Great looking instrument!

I'll echo the comments on the wedge, looks very clean and nice to my crooked eyes!

Keep it up!

Homeboy, looks like you are going to have a sweet guitar when this one is finished. That's very nice looking Braz and I'm sure the Euro top will make it sound great. Keep us posted on your progress.

Nice work, Home! I'm likin' that tall-and-thin brace visible through the soundhole. Did you brace the top that way, too?

Thanks for all of the positive comments. I appreciate it and it keeps me building. The braces are all tall and thin. I was at the Somogyi guitar listening session at the GAL and he talked a lot about the strength increases with height opposed to width of braces. He made a lot of sense so I am going with it on my builds right now. I'll let you all know how it sounds pretty soon. I'll be finishing two next week.

What does everyone else here use for finish. Right now I am using waterbased finish from Target Coatings. I would like to know what other options are available for finishing at home without a proper spraybooth.

Again thanks for looking.

Homeboy

Man, there have been some inspiring shots of tight maple joints lately! Thanks for the photos--the guitar is really looking nice!

Post a few pics of your process for inlaying that herringbone rosette.

Thanks,

The Rosette was a pre-made job by Stew-Mac. I wish I could say it was all my work but I can't. I bought the thing in a three ring rosette but just used the center ring. I cut all of my rosettes with a Milwaukee router and a circle cutting jig on the base of the router. I used to use the dremel but it wobbled too much for me.

Thanks again for the kind comments.
